New Norcia is a monastic town in Western Australia founded by two Spanish Benedictine monks and it was here that the composers was inspired to write this piece. It commences with a fanfare reminiscent of the chapel bells and continues in processional mode - a reflection of continuity and daily repetition of prayers and tasks; reference too to the monks' chant set to Psalm 102. By contrast the guitar and Spanish music have a strong appearance in the music.
